The Hire Mark - We seek - a humanities instructor who can assist students in fusing English language-arts and
history in an environment that nurtures and develops students into positive global citizens;cultivates an appreciation of humanities and the importance of the English language and history;prepares students for success in high school humanities programs; and presents students withexperiences that promote and develop a growth mindset. The ideal candidate will hold aMulti-Subject Credential or an English and/or History Single-Subject Credential. The candidateshould be comfortable teaching various courses including, but are not limited to 6th through8th-grade English, Ancient History, World History, and U.S. History. Additional experience instudent led newspapers and/or Model UN is desired and will be highly considered.Faculty Professional Characteristics/Qualities include:Maintains a passionate, student-centered, developmental approach to teachingIs well-organized and maintains up-to-date lesson plans, scope and sequence, andcurriculum mapsDemonstrates the ability to differentiate instruction and address the needs of all studentlearnersEngages in meaningful and productive collaboration with administration, colleagues, andparentsDisplays excellent communication skills with a commitment to keeping parents informedas partners in their child's learningIs motivated to take risks and seek leadership opportunitiesExhibits interest in professional growth opportunities with a strong commitment toongoing educationMotivated to improving the school as a whole, sharing best practicesAdept at utilizing technology as an added instructional tool including: navigating Googleapplications, working with iPads, and upholding classroom management of variouseducational applicationsIs self-reflective and committed to improving one's practice embracing feedback fromcolleagues, administrators, and studentsCreates of a strong classroom culture that is developed through a Responsive Classroomapproach, and contributes to the broader school Kehilla (community)Responsibilities Include:Teach five sections of MS HumanitiesDevelop and refine curriculum maps, lessons, and units of study that meet or exceed therequirements of Common Core StandardsLead a weekly elective activity in the field of English or History, (Model UN or SchoolNewspaper)Lead a weekly Advisory group using curriculum provided by HillelPlan and coordinate a grade level MS humanities tripUse the Schoology Learning Management System (LMS) to post assignments,communicate with students, and maintain gradebook weeklySupervise students in and out-of-classroom activities during the school day, includingcarpool, recess, and lunch supervisionsAttend and participate in all staff development, including staff orientation andprofessional development for both internal (led by the Head of Academics, Director ofMiddle School, other teachers/staff, and/or visiting experts) and external (visiting otherschools, attending conferences, and engaging in best practice sharing with others in theschool community, etc.) as arranged/calendared by the SchoolParticipate and/or lead special school events including, but not limited to, Open House,Back to School Night, grade level trips, and special student performancesAssess student progress and achievement using a variety of means to collect and reporton academic dataUse data to inform instruction in order to meet individual student academic and socialneeds with a goal of every student performing on grade level or above in all subject areasProvide emergency lesson plans for substitutesOther Responsibilities include:Be visibly and actively present and on time to all other assigned duties on campusMaintain frequent communication and engagement with colleagues, students families,and other school stakeholdersParticipate as an active member of the community to provide stewardship of the schooland adherence to its mission and guiding principlesMaintain a high level of professionalism including meeting deadlines, and commitmentsto self, students, and the communityCollaborate with grade level and department teams and the student support team todesign and implement curriculum and assess student growth in meaningful and rigorouswaysAttend and participate in all faculty meetings and curriculum development programsAttendance at all other community/school events is encouraged
